El Valle, Panama: One Of The Most Beautiful Places In Panama
Get Started, Panama Special Reports, Retirement & LifestyleEl Valle, Panama: One Of The Most Beautiful Places In Panama
El Valle has so many great things going for it. Because of its elevation (600 m above sea level), it has a year-round mild and mostly cool climate. Arguably best of all is that this is a great walking town. You don’t really need a car, although you may find yourself wishing for one in the rainy season.
In a sense, El Valle epitomizes Panamanian culture. It’s laid back, the national cuisine is very basic, and it’s a town that revels in the celebrations of the holiday season.
El Valle is a popular expat destination among retirees. Is it a great place to raise a family? In some respects, perhaps it is. However, local schools do not cater to international students, and the closest international school is about an hour away in Gorgona.
Getting to know your neighbors in El Valle is easy. Locals and expats are very friendly. Social activity is driven by church groups, volunteer activities, hiking, bird watching, expat happy hours, community fairs, and more…
El Valle de Antón is a lush valley of biodiversity. It is situated in a 3.7-miles-wide caldera of an inactive volcano. It’s without a doubt one of Panama’s biggest tourist and vacation destinations. Urban dwellers come here to relax, expats come here for the vida mas tranquila (quieter life), and tourists come for its many natural attractions.

Porto, Portugal | Overseas Haven Report
When a region and a wine share the same name, you can imagine the passion involved in the product…
The history of this fabulous city—the second-most prominent in Portugal—is closer to that of an ensemble of small villages, its landscape formed by generations of seafaring and trade.
Some of the oldest parts of the city are being totally revamped, so it’s common to see infrastructure works underway as you walk the streets these days…
Although shrouded in resident fog that contrasts with the colorful people that live here, the gloom adds a sense of charm and mystery while simultaneously illuminating the city… it adds personality and creates harmony among the many villages that compose it.
With a broad mix of cultures and styles that can be seen from one street to another, it’s no surprise people have a strong sense of belonging to this special little piece of coastline.
Globally known for its exquisite port wine and surrounded by the enchanting Douro Valley (with a population of roughly 240,000 in the metropolitan area), this is Porto, Portugal.

Budapest has had many names over the years: The Heart of Europe… The Pearl of the Danube… The Capital of Spas and Thermal Baths… Monikers aside, it holds a special place in the hearts of those that know it.
It’s a historical marvel, with iconic buildings and landmarks spanning several centuries scattered around the city. On either side of the Danube River that splits the city in two are Buda and Pest: Buda is aristocratic with its mansions and rolling hills; Pest is the working person’s side, where most of the day-to-day action takes place.
Both contribute to what is arguably one of the most eclectic, loveliest capitals on the Continent. The best part is that you can take it all its charm on foot in this supremely walkable city. Learn more about what’s on offer in Budapest in this Overseas Haven Report.

Eastern Seaboard, Thailand | Overseas Haven Report
About two hours south of Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, is the Gulf of Thailand and the seaside resort city of Pattaya. Veer left to head south or right to go north onto Highway 3 (also known as Sukhumvit Road), and you’ll be cruising along the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand.
Before the 1960s, this stretch of coastline was a collection of typical Thai fishing villages harvesting the abundant catch found in the Gulf of Thailand. But in the late 60s through the late 70s, the region became a base of operations for the U.S. military during the Vietnam War.
Today, parts of the Eastern Seaboard are still sleepy little fishing villages that seem frozen in time. Other parts will shock visitors with their modern infrastructure and switched-on international flair. Therein lies the charm of the Eastern Seaboard: laidback or high-energy… old school or high-tech… there’s something for everyone.

Coronado, Panama
Panama is surrounded by beaches, and Panamanians have a variety of weekend getaways to choose from, but Coronado, only about an hour’s drive outside the city, isn’t just any beach. It’s the most turn-key, expat-friendly beach community in Panama.
Coronado is a town where expats gather for drinks, dinner, and dancing at least twice a week. Three international schools are located either in the town or the surrounding Pacific beach areas.
You can also keep the kids (and yourself) busy with an equestrian school, a surfing school, and even golf classes, all available right in town. Panama correspondent Chris Powers describes Coronado as the “furnished home of the tropics.” Whether you are looking for an oceanside retirement retreat, a place to raise your kids, or a weekend getaway, you’ll have no problem adjusting to your new home away from home in Coronado.
