Gamboa town was originally erected as a place for Canal workers in 1911. It has undergone many changes since, becoming, at one time, a bustling “Canal Zone” township but losing much of its population and funding when the United States turned authority for the Canal over to Panama in 1999. Gamboa today is a sleepy community nestled among rolling hills of dense jungle.
